Types of Infrared Sauna Heaters. Which is right for you?

Ceramic Sauna Heaters vs. Carbon Sauna Heaters
While both heaters have distinct advantages and disadvantages, the following information should help determine which type is best for your situation.

Ceramic Heaters
Ceramic heaters have been around for a while, so they are tried and true. Technological advancements have also improved the durability of ceramic heaters and helped reduce the cost. Therefore saunas with ceramic heaters typically cost 15-20% less than their newer carbon fiber counterparts.

Ceramic heaters provide ample heat. However, the heat is most significant near the ceramic heater itself, making ceramic heat a good option for spot treatments where particular body parts need more heat. The surface area of the heater tends to be smaller, which intensifies the heat in that particular area, which can make it difficult for an individual to lean against, as opposed to carbon fiber heaters, which have a lower surface temperature.

Saunas with ceramic heaters heat up quickly, allowing you to enjoy the sauna at your desired temperature within 8-10 minutes.

Pros: Lower initial cost, quick heat-up, concentrated heat ideal for spot treatments.

Cons: With hotter surface temperatures, ceramic heater rods can be more fragile than carbon fiber heating sheets and less energy efficient than carbon fiber heaters.

Carbon Fiber Heaters

Carbon fiber heaters are thin and have a large surface area which heats at a lower temperature. Carbon fiber heaters are created by impregnating carbon ink (carbon in nanometer form) into a fiberglass sheet, which is sealed between two fiberglass sheets to eliminate any gases.

Saunas with carbon fiber heaters are typically 15-20% more expensive than saunas with ceramic heaters however; they provide several distinct benefits. Carbon fiber heaters disperse evenly over larger surface areas making them more suitable for full-body therapy. Carbon fiber heaters are more durable than ceramic and will often last longer, although both heat types should provide you with years of service.

Carbon fiber heaters Infrared heat penetrates deeper into the skin tissue than ceramic heaters. The surface temperature of a carbon fiber heater is also much lower than a ceramic heater. Therefore, they are safer, and a person can withstand longer therapy sessions.

Since carbon fiber heaters emit lower temperatures over a larger surface area, they don’t have “hot spots” that are sometimes encountered with ceramic heaters.

Carbon fiber heaters are also more energy efficient than ceramic heaters.

Pros: Low surface temperature, even heat and infrared wave distribution, large heating surface area

Cons: Higher initial cost, slightly longer warm-up time(10-15 minutes)
